Frequently Asked Questions - Gilded Sage

What are hair embellishments?Fairy hair, mermaid hair, unicorn hair, hair tinsel....there have been many different names for it, but the principle is the same. Hair embellishments are silken polyester strands in various colors that are attached to your hair to give it a little pizzazz.
-
How are hair embellishments attached? Some people attach the embellishments by glue or beads, which can damage hair. I use a tiny latch hook to make a small knot at the base of your hair shaft. It is tied to a single strand and will last as long as that hair does. This means it could last as little as a few days or as much a few months. I've seen some stay in for close to a year.
-
Are hair embellishments safe?Absolutely. There are no chemicals or beads used. The embellishment is tied to a single strand of your hair...that's it.
-
Can anyone get hair embellishments?Yes, however, some hair types aren't as conducive to hair embellishments: Children under 6 - Childrens' hair sheds at a much faster rate than adults, so it often doesn't last as long. Tightly curled hair - Hair embellishments will conform to most hair textures, especially if it is encouraged to curl with the rest of your hair (think separating and scrunching your curls after a shower). But if your curl pattern is pretty tight, you might not get the same results as a looser curl. Extra short hair - It takes about an inch of hair to grasp while securing the knot, so anything shorter than that simply makes it hard to apply.

Can I wash, dry, dye, style, curl, straighten my hair?Yes. Hair embellishments can do all of that! Because they are made out of polyester, they can be heated up to 450 degree. They can also by dyed and not absorb any of the color. While they can be permed, it will not make the fairy hair "curly".
